PLAYED
SIXTEEN WON SIXTEEN
Congratulations Olney Ladies Hockey Club on an immaculate league
performance this season.
Karen Murdoch took charge for the first eight games and left me with
a legacy that I was not too sure I could live up to.
Given that Olney players go 'part time' in the skiing season and we
also sustained upheaval in our formerly solid defence, I am
particularly proud of our second half of the season's performances.
Towards the end of our remarkable run I felt the level of expectancy
on the Olney team growing each week and the level of resistance from
opposition sides 'out to take our scalp' raising accordingly.
So with the final whistle of the season still ringing in my head I
am left with an overwhelming sense of relief, shielding deserved
pride in the club.
Thank goodness then that we have a tournament to play next week
where we can celebrate our success, together with some of the teams
we share the pitch with year in year out.
We can go mad for it on tour and party, party, party because the one
thing Olney Ladies do better than playing hockey together is
celebrate and I will be more than happy to lead from the front.

The division
title is in the bag and promotion is secured for next season but we
still have one or two matters to attend to before we can think about
relaxing.
The vets tournament will give us oldies a chance to show the
youngsters how hockey used to be played in the good old days of,
white washed fabric covered balls, wooden sticks and the offside
law...
More seriously though we have two more league games to play and the
divisional tournament to compete in before a well planned end of
season tour..
Let's not take our eye off the ball just yet Olney Ladies.

The win this
Saturday has secured our place in the first division next season but
we still have three more games before we can relax.
It was lovely to see Avril on Saturday and hopefully we may persuade
her to have another run out before the end of the season.
I am hoping that key players will return form injury for our next
game so that we can get some structure back into our playing
formation. I am confident that we can play some great hockey and
finish the season off in style.

After two
easy matches this year, the real work starts next week when we come
up against Rothwell and Desborough.
We are looking forward to having a full, fighting fit squad and I
anticipate the stronger opposition will pull our own game into a
better, sharper shape.
I am looking forward to the challenge and am confident that we have
the ability to go on winning.
See you all at training.

We gave
ourselves a real test this week end; entering the County tournament
in error. Thoughts of not turning up were put to the back of our
minds and we played against the four strongest teams in
Northamptonshire.
We acquitted ourselves very well against the Saints first team and
Kettering Town, managed a 0-0 draw with Wellingborough and still
looked better than the 4-0 score line suggests against Towcester.
The tournament organisers, initially having expressed surprise at
our entry, were impressed by our attitude and they way we played and
have invited us to return next year.
We can take a great deal of positives from our days work;
defensively the future looks bright, team spirit is running high and
the tour arrangements are well underway.
Bring on Girls Barton next week!

Hi Everyone, Just want to send a quick email to you all to say what
a fantastic result
yesterday, I
thought that we all worked really hard and deserved the win! I
just hope
that we can go out next Saturday and thrash Town, so I can step
down as
Captain on an unbeaten run and we will be half way to winning the
league in
style. I would also like to say thanks for all your support
whilst I have
been captain and I wish Jenny lots of luck and fingers crossed
we can go
up and win this league without losing a game!
See you all on Wednesday, take care, love Karen x

Training started
on Wednesday 31st August with a good turn out despite the coach
being absent and the weather not going to plan, which meant a gentle
start. At the next training meeting, there was another good turn out
and with the coach present it meant a harder session.
We look forward
to our first game of the season, with a friendly match against Earls
Barton. This will be a tough match to start with, as Earls Barton
won promotion last year into Northants Division 1 league and we are
without our regular goalkeeper – so beware, I will be asking for
favours!.
